“I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus” 1 Corinthians 1:4 NIV
Back in June of 2004, we had a devastating tornado near our residence in the Norris community. I thought that would be one of the most devastating incidents to happen (besides death) to our family until just a few days later. Rick was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We were told it was a progressive type of disease that would eventually disable him. Hopes and dreams were instantly crushed! The unknown about a terrible progressing disabling disease made us instantly fearful, doubtful, and angry. Coincidentally, the prior Lenten season, Southwood kicked off the book 40 Days of Purpose. So as we digested the news, we began to look at God’s plan and our purpose differently. Our faith continued to grow, we began to serve more often, went on mission trips, and our church family became priority to us. It’s our purpose. God’s plan for us!
We are very grateful and humbled by the love and support our church family has given us. As Rick’s wife, I am amazed with the daily perseverance he demonstrates to his children, family, friends, community, and to his purpose in life. If I were to walk in his shoes for just one day, I’m not sure I could do it with the dignity and courage that Rick does, but I do know he would not be able to do this without each of you. I am also equally impressed with my children, Morgan and Landon, who for the most part have successfully dealt with the extra challenges, duties, baggage, and worries about their father in a very positive manner. All of this is because of many of you. You have taught them well and shown them God’s love.
We are grateful for the love, support, smiles, encouragements, care and concern that have been given to Rick, the kids, and me. It has provided the strength to keep living life for God with purpose. The people here at Southwood have demonstrated their Christian love to us through a difficult disabling disease. We are forever grateful! We pray and hope this clinical trial Rick is currently involved in will bring awareness to others about the MS disease that affects so many, and hope for those who suffer.
“…may the Lord reward you for your kindness” Ruth 1:8 NLT

Thank you for the great example your family has given to Southwood on how to handle adversity. May God bless and protect the Braun family

Cindy, Rick and family... You truly have been an inspiration to us all! Thank you for sharing your faith walk and thank you for opening up your lives so we can offer support through prayer!
